Editing The Guide

Good day...Is there a way to eliminate the channel logo display from the guide and also a way to control the font size of the channel name displayed? I seem to recall I might have edit a config file when I was creating my own channel logos but can't remember the exact file. Go figure, now I don't want any channel logos at all to create more space for the channel name. I will poke around in the meantime to see if I can find my notes. Thanks in advance...cheers!

Power Outage Messed up NPVR??

Good day...Well first off I had received this problem initially some time ago. That is, the problem of not finding an available capture device with a 403 error code. It was fixed back then through this forum by installing an updated/fixed Nshared.dll file. Everything has been working fine for several months until today. This area experienced an electrical shortage which obviously shut everything down. Once I was back up I returned to watch my programs in NPVR just as prior to the shortage. Which is when I received the error telling me that NPVR was unable to find....

I need your help on this. I have attached the logs as well. Cheers...

OK, I built a new Server and have input the channel list from my IPTV provider. I have gone in and deleted the channels that I do not want. Now how do I go about deleting the groups that I do not want. I go into the channels group page the groups that I want to delete are not there but when I go into the program guide they show up there.

Cutting The Vader EPG Chord

Good Day and Merry Christmas to all…

Vaders has had its ups and downs over the years but it has always rebounded and I personally have been happy with their services until now. The most recent issue that has plagued this service provider has been their URL’s for both the m3u and EPG data and has been driving me bonkers. In the past one could use for the m3u http://api.vaders.tv/vget?username=x...at=ts/m3u/m3u8 or just leave off the “&format=” and for the EPG you would use http://vaders.tv/p2.xml. Now due to some maintenance going on over at the Vaders shop these URL’s are no longer valid. Using a browser to validate the “currently working” URL for the m3u pull as noted above, I get the following response
Name: Failed m3u URL.jpg
Views: 5
Size: 21.3 KB

However, using the following URL in a browser with either &format=m3u, m3u8, ts, or blank yields me a valid m3u file; http://vaders.tv/vget?username=xxx&p...xx&format=m3u8. The difference is that the “api” at the beginning must be omitted. I don’t know why but this is what works for me in NPVR now. As of this morning it looks like either http://vaders.tv/p2.xml.gz or http://vaders.tv/p2.xml are working now in the browser when only yesterday the http://vaders.tv/p2.xml.gz was the working model. In NPVR http://vaders.tv/p2.xml is also working but it doesn’t auto map the channels. This is most likely due to “tvg-name” from m3u file not finding a match with “channel id” in xml file. However, I did notice that the format of the xml file has gone through a massive restructure. Here is an example of what channels 17398 and 14863 looked like on 2018/12/17

<display-name>CBC</display-name><display-name>CBCT</display-name>
<display-name>197 CBCT</display-name>
<display-name>197</display-name>
<icon height="270"

<display-name>CTV Halifax HD</display-name><display-name>CJCH</display-name>
<display-name>201 CJCH</display-name>
<display-name>201</display-name>
<display-name>CTV Halifax</display-name>
<icon height="270"

versus what they look like today

<display-name>CBCT</display-name>

<display-name>CTV Halifax</display-name>

So, I have decided to cut the EPG chord from Vaders and construct my own so I don’t have to go through this experience again. As of now Vaders currently does not have a working EPG that plays nice with NPVR. I will be using NPVR (of course), mc2xml, Notepad++, Excel, Schedules Direct (SD) and MS notepad.

The first step was to pull the m3u and xml files and load them into NPVR so that I would know what channels I had access to. Next, without doing anything else I exported the channels from NPVR to its default xml file. Next, I opened the exported file with Excel (yes that’s right Excel). Excel has a very kool way of parsing the file into its logical components as shown below.

Size: 22.0 KB

Column B indicates the tvg-name from the m3u file while column H indicates the channel id from the xml file. You can readily see in this depiction the mismatch between the two columns therefore, necessitating a manual/auto channel mapping. This is also the way I can see what channels I don’t want or need in order to eliminate them in the next step.

If you are able to pull in your EPG using NPVR and you can auto map all of your channels you can skip this step which uses mc2xml. For me I performed all the steps indicated thus far but could not auto map because of the mismatch. I used mc2xml to pull specific channels and edited the xml channel id to match the tvg-name in the m3u file. For those of you interested in a statistic, I pulled 850 channels and renamed the channel id in 13 seconds. Crazy huh!

Using mc2xml and SD, http://mc2xml.awardspace.info/ I executed mc2xml which gave me this

Name: mc2xml-1.jpg

Size: 19.4 KB

If you have an SD account (free trial also) you can enter your creds and continue. I used their JSON service with the following selections for my UK channels. Their “schedules direct” service does not give you the opportunity to enter a postal or country code selection. USA channels and other country channels were queried in the same manner. When it completes its query, you will get your xml file.

For the best control (IMO), I chose to use a batch file to call mc2xml.exe with parameters that told the query what channels I wanted specifically and how to rename them so that they would match my m3u file in NPVR. Using MS notepad or Notepad++ I entered this within my UpdateEPG.bat… “mc2xml -J user:password -c gb -g cf31 -D uk.dat -C uk.chl -R uk.ren -a -U -u -d 10 -o uk.xml”. I won’t take the space here to explain the switches because you can read all about this proggy at http://mc2xml.awardspace.info/. However, here is a sample of my channel request which is my uk.chl file…

Name: mc2xml-3.PNG
Views: 5
Size: 10.3 KB

The rename file uk.ren looks like this…

# rename the following

I0.17153.schedulesdirect.org:bbc one hd
I0.17154 schedulesdirect.org:bbc two hd
I0.83282 schedulesdirect.org:bbc four hd
I0.17468.schedulesdirect.org:itv 1
I0.20630.schedulesdirect.org:itv 2 hd
I0.44643.schedulesdirect.org:itv 3 hd
I0.48020.schedulesdirect.org:itv 4 hd
I0.17155.schedulesdirect.org:channel 4

I chose to use the channel id in lieu of display-name or some other field to match on because not every xml file has those fields for every channel. However, every channel has a specific channel id that is unique to it. So, “How do I know what the channel id is for every channel I want to pull you ask”? Remember that Excel file pic I showed you earlier? Well if you look at the “guide id” column they are listed there, not all but most. We have 85 channels in the UK which is why I chose to work on those first. I have started the USA pull but only 1/3 of the way done.

For those channels that do not have a number listed and instead have some alpha characters indicating the station call name, you will use this name to search within your xml file you pulled from Schedules Direct. The search will yield you a channel id that you can use. You may encounter more than one possible choice.

I hope this information helps you out. For me I now no longer am tied to Vaders EPG or any other EPG for that matter. My gratitude goes out to all of you that helped me on this especially sub, Graham and Martin. Cheers and Merry Christmas to all.

New server not communicating with kodi

Just built a new server and now it will not communicate with Kodi. Kodi says PVR manager is starting up then loading channels from PVR clients. It does this a few times then kodi kicks me out. I have tried the same IP address with the old server disconnected from the network as well as a new IP address. I have tried uninstalling kodi and then reinstalling kodi. I have tried turning off windows firewall as well. I am at a loss as to why this is happening.
Thank you for your time.

Experience / Guide Elgato EyeTV Netstream 4C SAT>IP tuner

$

As I found no clear guide on the web that tells you if & how the Elgato EyeTV Netstream 4C SAT>IP tuner works with PVR backends & Kodi frontend, I decided to share my findings here. Spoiler on the result: it works, mainly because of a factory reset.

Before I go into detail, a big THANK YOU! After quite a few experiments with other PVRs / clients, I ended up with NextPVR Server + Kodi Clients for my Elgato EyeTV Netstream SAT>IP tuners. Works great except for a few issues.

As Elgato EyeTV Netstream 4S and Netstream 4C both share the same issues with the SAT>IP tuner not being discoverable, I´ll share my experience with the 4C here. I could not make use of the tuner with any other software than the EyeTV app, or the bundled Terratec Home Cinema. But of course I want a decent PVR backend & nice frontend like Kodi, so I experimented with VLC, Kodi and Mediaportal - no chance to get the Netstream work.

The key to the solution was described in a few forums: a factory reset! ( Hint 1 / Hint 2 / How to factory reset Netstream 4C )

After Factory reset, the firmware is set back to a development version that supports SAT>IP. Now the Netstream can be found in my network, but published channels do not work, and it has no webinterface for tuning or creating an m3u. But I found a way to use all 4 tuners with an m3u I created with the AVM FRITZ!WLAN Repeater DVB-C. That device has an integrated DVB-C dual tuner with a web interface for tuning & exporting an m3u playlist. Simply changing the IP in the m3u to the IP of the Netstream let´s me use it in VLC and Kodi. Btw, here´s an m3u Example for Netstream 4S. I chose this workaround as I do not have a Mac with Elgato EyeTV Software to get the Channel Playlist m3u exported from there - this is another way to get to the m3u .

Btw, tuning the Netstream with the m3u was also not possible before the factory reset. Only after the reset, I could use the Netstream with VLC (m3u) & Kodi (IPTV Simple Client with the m3u)

Next was to integrate the Netstream in a PVR server:
 • Mediaportal 2: no chance whatsoever due to lack of SAT>IP suport. The channel import based on the m3u with the IPTV tuner did not work, not matter what format / parameters the m3u contained.
 • TVMosaic: found all 4 tuners and the 2 AVM tuners. But I was not able to tune with the Netstream (no channels found), and applying the channel profile from the AVM tuner did not work (no signal), even tough the AVM worked perfectly)
 • NextPVR: the free solution the best: most easy to configure, and working almost perfectly! Both the AVM and the Netstream are found in "Devices" tab. The only issue is that scanning with the Netstream does not find any channels. Solution: scan all channels with the AVM tuner, and apply the settings to the Netstream tuners - NextPVR even automatically asks you to copy the channels when you want to configure each tuner! Voila, 6 tuners working perfectly!

Live-TV works with both AVM tuners simultaneously, even better: NextPVR is able to tune to 2 different channels on the same frequency with 1 tuner (eg ORF and ATV in Austria), leaving the 2nd tuner available!

The issues I found are:
 • Why can´t the Netstream 4C find channels when scanning? After copying the the channel info from the AVM tuner it worked, but a full scan will not give a result
 • A full scan found nothing on the Netstream 4C device, and on the AVM tuner it did not find the most important 5 channels on the very first freq (298000). But a manual scan on that freq found the 5 channels on BOTH tuners, so Netstream was able to find channels?
 • When channels are working, after copying settings from the other SAT>IP tuner, the Netstream still pulls no EPG data?
 • Will the Netstream 4C / 4S also work in NextPVR after a firmware update to the newest version?
 • From my 1 NextPVR server with 6 (2+4) tuners, streaming to at least 3 devices simultaneously works. But I tried recording 5 shows at once, and only got 2 working recordings - the other 3 were empty 0byte files. Seems only 1 recording per tuning device (AVM / Netstream) works? I was hoping I can make 1 recording per tuner?

Another issue I found: touching the "Enable" setting in the tuners break the Recording Service, so eg disabling 2 of 4 tuners to reserve them for another PVR service. It loses all tuners in the "Status" window, while all are still available under "devices". Restarting the NPVR Recording Service does not help, only a reinstall of NPVR fixes this. I also had the impression that this behaviour started when I manually executed NPVRServiceControl.exe - could that be?

Hope this helps some of xou guys to finally make use of this great device in a decent way ;)

Hi,

All my scheduled recordings are stopping some time between 30 seconds and 5 minutes after starting.
The bit that gets recorded is ok - right channel, right time. My PC never sleeps, so that's not it (fixed
*that* problem a while back). I read through the logs but didn't see anything in the parts that I could
understand. Help, please!

Win 10 Home 64-bit
Quick recording "Basic Black" started at 2018-12-21 19:29
Prematurely ended after ~45 seconds, should have recorded until ~20:30

Thanks,

I'm BAAACKK, looking for best way to get to Roku with recorded content

$

Hi All! Happy Holidays!

I am thrilled that the project is still alive and well! After several years of using WMC for recording protected content, we have decided to dump the cable company and move to streaming. I setup with Rokus and I have YouTube TV and Philo for the content we watch. It is great for the live TV and streaming content, but we like to record network TV shows and skip through commercials (like most good civilized people ;) ) I have a HVR-2250 up and working with OTA channels and am ready to come home to GBPVR...I mean NextPVR! I have looked through the Wiki and searched a lot of the forum, but have some basic questions on the path forward. Seems like there are several possibilities.

My goal is to record OTA channels and get them in an ordered manner to a pile of Rokus. Having access to an EPG and the ability to schedule recordings from the Roku would be nice. But not totally required. Also would like to have the recordings in some kind of order by the title of the shows that we record. Finally, comskip would be nice, but not required.

So I see Emby, Plex and others. What plugins do I need? Feel free to point me at a post and I will move from there. What is a cleanest path forward.

Thanks in advance!

Error "Recording service not running" -- but really no tuners available?

$

Hi Sub,

I've got a strange one at the moment -- finally got to doing some larger HD sweeps for OTR movies, and getting more conflicts -- which are okay as NPVR really tries to move things around beautifully in the background.

I am wondering if there is a problem as I keep getting errors like this:

Name: Untitled picture.jpg
Views: 5
Size: 13.1 KB

when instead I can see in the log files (I really had to work hard to capture this, the rollover is killing me!) that the recording service is manically trying to allocate a tuner but can't!

The recording should have started at 250am, and due to rollover can only get bits & pieces after the fact (235, 250 and 310am).

Any suggestions? Is this a web display problem instead? Interestingly enough I don't see any "conflict" entries on the web UI, but a couple of failed recordings after the fact.

Thanks,
Dane

Editing IPTV Device Setup Breaking Channel Change Range

$

0
Hi Guys,

I've searched for my couple problems but I'm not finding them in past threads, so excuse me if this has been covered before.

When setting up the IPTV device if I come back and change a channel number after the intial setup it deletes the stream address. You can't edit anything but the channel number, so you have to delete it, which brings another problem...if I delete it and then add a new one it screws up the channel range used when you use the plus / minus keys or the remote channel up / down keys.

Next, if I enter a few channels and then exit the device setup and go over and setup the guide and stuff things work perfect, but if I come back to add more channels it will let me add them, the guide update works, etc.. HOWEVER, it also screws up the channel change range used by the plus / minus keys or via my remote again -> whatever channels were setup during the initial setup is all that it will cycle through, any channels later added are ignored.

i.e. if I add 10 channels initially, then come back and add another 10 then 20 channels show as setup, but when I try to change channels via plus/minus or channel up/down it will simply cycle through 1-10. If I would choose channel 15 in the guide it would go to it, but if I change channels it drops back down to channels in the initial 1-10.

If I had 10 setup and decided to change channel 5's number to 11 it would change the channel number to 11, but it wouldn't work because the stream address got deleted, PLUS the channel range would now be just 1-4.

So basically you have to set things up perfectly to start with. If you try to add or correct anything later it breaks the channel change.

Is there a way to make it recognize channels have been added?

Could we make it keep the stream address when changing the channel's number?

Thanks!

Steve

IPTV Live TV Stutter, Recordings Fine

Hi Guys,

I'm playing with IPTV. Some of the channels play fine and some stutter on live tv. However, if it stutters during live tv I've noticed I can let it play a few seconds and then hit the rewind to start button and it'll play just fine. Recordings always play fine.

I tried changing video decoders, it didn't help.

Sooo, it seems it needs to pause and fill the buffer a bit more before starting to play. Is there a setting for that?

Hello all,

New to NextPVR so just trying to set it up correctly.

I have imported an M3U file from my IPTV provider however the grouping has not been loaded in, I only seem to have 1 grouping "IPTV Channels"

Here is an example of my m3u file
group-title="UK VIP HD/FHD"

Is there anyway the importer can read these and create the appropriate groups?

Would be appreciated, thanks

Area-51 IPTV Setup and Use

Hi Guys,

I'm playing with the Area-51 IPTV service. I'm running windows 7 Pro 64 bit and running NextPVR 4.2.3(181112). I have the SAF6, LAV, and FFDShow Decoders installed, and I'm using the Auto Refresh Plug In that was recommended with the SAF6 Decoder Package, the Auto Refresh Plug In version is 2.4.05.03. I'm using Mullvad VPN and their 64 bit app version 2018.6. I'm also using a hardline connection to the router. I have NextPVR up and running already with a HDHomerun Prime Cable Card and it's been running stabily for a long time, for the moment though I've deleted the HDHomerun channels so I can focus on the IPTV only (this isn't my only NextPVR machine, so it's not interrupting any viewing or recording...it's just a seldom used machine in a spare room).

I like to keep notes when working on projects so I thought I'd share them and hopefully save others wanting to do the same thing some time.
